John Phillips, the owner of the Borgo, is an American of Italian ancestry and former U.S. Ambassador to Italy from 2013 to early 2017. Phillips purchased the property in 2001 and spent the next eight years planning and overseeing the Borgo’s extensive renovation.

The Borgo continues its tradition of renting the entire village (five villas with a total of 22 suites and luxury rooms, accommodating up to 44 guests) to large gatherings on an exclusive, buy-out basis. A private Chef will cater to your needs, along with a concierge who will arrange custom tours and experiences. For those looking for a workout, relaxation or fun competition, the Borgo includes a sixty-foot oval swimming pool; a fully equipped gym with weights, Cybex and elliptical machines, a sauna, steam room, hot tub and cold splash; and tennis, basketball and bocce courts.

As a special accommodation to smaller groups who wish to experience the Borgo, individual villas may occasionally be available when the entire property has not been booked by a larger group on an exclusive basis. In this case, guests who rent single villas have the option of cooking their own meals in the well-appointed villa kitchens or arranging for a private chef at an additional fee. Otherwise, all of the amenities listed above will be available to guests who reserve single villas.
